Flying with toddlers

Flying with children is something everyone dreads!! The parents and the co-passengers(fear that they might scream all the time :) )

Actually, it may turn out to be a pleasant experience if a few measures are taken to keep them occupies during the flight. I personally had the experience of travelling with my 2.5 yr old daughter from Chennai-Dallas via Gulf air. It was an amazing experience :)

- Took lots of plain papers and coloring pens/crayons
- took her favorite books along
- couple of music cd's with a cd player and batteries fully charged!! :)
- lots of snacks like kurkure, milk bikis etc
- diapers, even if they are potty-trained, they have too much to handle already!!
- extra set of clothes
- if possible a small portable dvd player with their fav movies/ if u have u r own laptop

fortunately for me gulf air provided with a lot of items to keep her occupied. the food was so kid-friendly. did not have to worry that she might starve. she was well-hydrated throughout.

At Bahrain, we had a halt of 16 hrs. although, i was advised to pay for the hotel booking. i decided not to do that and go to bahrain and ask for accomodation as i had a child with me. they actually have alloted number of rooms for gulf air passengers, if it goes beyond that quota, u'll have to pay. luckily, i did not have a problem. i went to the travel desk at the airport and asked for accomodation and got the voucher for the same w/o paying anything. they put us up at a very good hotel about 15 mins from the airport. there too we had lot of fun. slept a lot, watched tv had buffet lunch and dinner. not much option for vegetarians except salads and desserts.

they picked us up a couple of hours before the flight to frankfurt and dropped us back at the bahrain airport.

there it was a 2hr wait to board the frakfurt-bound flight. we then had a disturbed sleep flight till we rchd frankfurt.

I have never walked so much in my life at a stretch as i did at the frakfurt airport. just kidding!! it is pretty far from the arrival gate at frakfurt to the departure gate for the flight to dallas.

then, relaxed as it was the last leg for 10.5 hrs. surprisingly, my 2 yr old had a good experience savouring each country and it's people at the airports and i sucessfully made it to dallas with cheers!! :)

immigration and customs got done quickly and i was on my way to enjoy a gr8 vacation
